If you fancy a bit of late summer sun, sangria and sonic delights at the same time, then we have the event for you! The Vocal Booth Weekender 2010 takes place on 17th, 18th and 19th September in La Dehesa de Campoamor, Alicante – a beautiful village on the south of the Costa Blanca. The event will showcase some of the best Deep & Soulful DJs in the world, including our very own Danny J Lewis as well as two former students, Miles Numan and Logistix. Danny J Lewis will be representing Point Blank, by giving an exclusive music production seminar and Q&A session based upon our ever-popular Deep and Soulful House Pro Producer Course. This is a rare opportunity to see Danny in action outside of the Point Blank courses and for his ex-students, the perfect chance to meet your tutor in person. With lecturing experience of over 8 years and numerous releases on Defected, 4th Floor, Masters at Work Records, and his own imprint Enzyme Black, this is definitely one sunny adventure not to be missed!

Strictly Rhythm, the label that defined house music in the 1990s and became an inspiration for many of today’s contemporary dance artists, is once again to become a stand-alone independent label.

The label, which enjoyed crossover success with Reel 2 Real, Wamdue Project and Ultra Naté and nurtured the careers of Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, Armand Van Helden and Masters At Work, returned in 2007 after a five year hiatus following a brief liason with Warner Music to link up with leading UK independent dance label Defected Records.

Three years later and now fully re-established, Strictly Rhythm will open a new London office in September.

Founder Mark Finkelstein says ‘“I would like to thank Simon Dunmore and the Defected team for all that they have done in helping to re-launch Strictly Rhythm. I look forward to a continued close relationship between Strictly Rhythm and Defected in the future.”

Simon Dunmore, Defected Records CEO comments “During the 20 years I have known Mark Finkelstein he has become a mentor and a close friend. It has been a pleasure to work with him directly and help re-establish Strictly Rhythm in today’s market. I look forward to continuing our special relationship.”

Strictly Rhythm and Defected Records will continue to work together on future projects.

A new substantially upgraded website is to launch in July 2010. www.strictly.com will provide all the latest news, upfront information on new releases, exclusive interviews, extended features and more.

We Love Music in association with the G-Shock Burlington Project are embarking on a bold new project. Upcoming artists can participate in the Fresh Blood program.

In the coming months there will be a search for independent labels, parties and any other kind of musical collective who are doing something special. Entrants will sign up via the welove-music.com site and set up a group on burlingtonproject.com where their music and information will be hosted.

Who can enter?
The contest is open to all however we should clarify this is not a bedroom DJ competition, we are looking for people playing underground parties, running niche events or indie labels that are looking to take what they do to a larger audience.

What do you win?
Finalists will be given dates in the Red Box of Space over the summer, the groups that generate the most interest and hold the best events will carry on working with We Love, Burlington Project and G-Shock though their European events.

It’s a unique opportunity to exhibit the rising stars of the underground; for the entrants this is a chance to showcase what they do in Space and work with We Love, Burlignton Project and G-Shock on their future projects.

Native Instruments are also on-board supporting this project by giving their new Traktor Prodcuts to the semifinalists.

Here’s how to enter…
You must first register at: www.burlingtonproject.com and then submit your network application.
You can upload your music and biog from there – Networks can take up to 24 hours to be approved.

Register your Burlington Group URL and other details here.

This September (17-18), The Vocal Booth returns to the shores of the Costa Blanca for another weekend of world class parties, provided by world class talent.

After the phenomenal success of the first weekender celebrating 10 years of “The Booth”, Andy Ward and his crew add a twist on a proven formula to guarantee another event destined to be second to none.

First and foremost, the event was started for a few people that converse weekly inside the chat room of the radio show. No one could have envisaged how the weekend would have turned out. This year looks set to be even bigger and better, yet we will truly focus on keeping that intimate, personal atmosphere.

Djs: Andy Ward, Phil Asher, Ricky Morrison, Grant Nelson, The Fanatix, Groove Assassin, Schoolboy, Deep City Soul, The Housebox Allstars, Soul Renegades, Deep Josh, Danny J Lewis, and our very own Miles Numan and Maik Pedersen

For all information please visit the special page: http://www.djandyward.net/vb-weekender-2010

The future of the Ministry of Sound club has been put in doubt following a planning application by property developer Oakmayne.

The future of the Ministry of Sound club has been put in doubt following a planning application by property developer Oakmayne. The company has submitted plans for a residential building on the site of the old Eileen House, which, if built, would sit opposite the Ministry of Sound building and could pose a significant threat to the club’s entertainment license. Oakmayne’s attitude towards preserving the longevity of the club is perhaps best summed up by a comment from its chairman, Christopher Allen, who when questioned gave his opinion that “nightclubs come and go”.

Ministry of Sound writes on its website:
“We, the undersigned, disagree with you Christopher. And we refuse to just sit idly by and let this happen. Ministry of Sound is not just a nightclub. Millions of people have passed through our doors over the 18 years we have been open. 300,000 people a year visit us annually, bringing trade to Elephant & Castle and the surrounding area. In the past we have, and will always strive to, create the moments people live for, and that people never forget. We are the people that come here, the people that work here, the music that is played here and the lifelong bonds that are made here. If we lose Ministry of Sound, we are losing a vital piece of youth culture in this country. Nightclubs may have existed before Ministry of Sound, but they were never the same afterwards.”

Ministry of Sound Group CEO Lohan Presencer said:
“When Oakmayne told us that ‘nightclubs come and go’, we were horrified. Ministry of Sound is not just any nightclub; it’s the most famous nightclub in the world and the heart of a global entertainment business. These developers have cut corners at every stage and counter to their claims, they do not have the best interests of the local community at heart. We must do everything in our power to save our club and our business.”

Ministry of Sound opened up a petition:
